BY: Superflux

Superflux are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Studio & Operations Manager to help lead our Studio’s operations and broader creative practice into the next phase of growth.

ROLE OVERVIEW

As a Studio & Operations Manager, you will work closely with Superflux’s two Directors and the Studio Coordinator / EA. This role is integral to the studio’s functionality, so we are keen to hear from experienced candidates for whom the description below sounds exciting.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

• Minimum five years of demonstrable experience in a mid to senior operational/organisational centred role within the creative and/or cultural sector.

• Demonstrable experience designing and facilitating the implementation of flexible and adaptive operational systems.

• Managing operational finance processes and budgets.

• Leading, managing, and motivating a team.

• Generating client, commissioner and collaborator contracts and SOWs.

• Enabling and nurturing diverse relationships with multiple stakeholders.

• Managing sensitive internal information, and exercising discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgement to support the needs of a diverse team.

HOW THIS ROLE FITS WITHIN THE STUDIO

The Studio & Operations Manager is a senior role positioned between the Directors and the Studio Team, and will work across three key interconnected areas of the studio:

1. STUDIO OPERATIONS

Designing and implementing flexible and adaptive operational systems: facilitating processes that support studio ambitions and guide unique workflows of a small diverse group of creative people.

Managing high level studio finances: maintaining an overview of financial well-being and providing insight on resourcing, forecasting and strategic decision-making. Issuing invoices and monitoring general studio expenditure.

Overseeing key operational relationships that impact the smooth running of the studio: ensuring the Studio Co-ordinator & EA and accountants are working together to process VAT, year-end accounts, payroll, and other financial obligations on time. Liaising with the external teams that facilitate the functionality of the studio space.

Managing employee and contractor recruitment and onboarding: creating contracts, updating onboarding information packages and studio handbooks. Managing annual leave requests.

Maintaining an overview of studio activity: working with Directors and project leads to maintain an overview of the studio’s traffic, and an awareness of associated resources.

2. CLIENT AND COMMISSIONER ACCOUNTS

Relationship and account management: working with the Directors to build and strengthen relationships with clients, partners, communities, and networks.

Leading client onboarding: from initial calls to sign-off, working with the Directors to create, shape, and finalise client contracts and SOWs.

Support with business outreach: sharing the studio’s work with different types of (value-aligned) clients, funders, and commissioners.

Supporting development: helping leadership find opportunities to disseminate the studio’s strategic products and offers within a wide ecosystem of partners and businesses.

3. STUDIO CULTURE

Maintaining the wellbeing of the studio: empathetic to the diverse needs of diverse people, nurturing a good working environment for all.

Acting as a conduit between senior leadership and the studio team: scheduling regular catch-ups and helping to plot personal growth plans.

Planning studio cultural activities: working to conceive and schedule away days that align with the studios values.

YOU MIGHT THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU:

• Possess strong organisational, planning, and leadership sensibilities.

• Are genuinely interested in Superflux’s work, mission and ethos, and have a keen enthusiasm and commitment to work in broad thematic areas including climate, technology, culture, economics and ecology.

• Have the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.

• Can build strong and caring relationships with clients (past and potential) and gain the trust of key stakeholders.

• Have experience applying innovative thinking to developing strategies that support the positive growth of relationships, teams, and products/offerings.

• Understand a values-based business model.

SALARY & BENEFITS

• £41-£45k per annum, depending on experience.

• Full-time permanent contract with leadership and career development at its core. (Open to 4 days/week at a pro-rata rate)

• Flexible working patterns

• While our standard workday is 10am-6pm, there is flexibility to arrange working hours around a collaborative core studio block of 10am-4pm to accommodate caring responsibilities.

• Hybrid working: minimum of two in-person days on Monday and Thursday at our studio in Somerset House (WC2R 1LA). In this instance, we would like to hear from people within commuting distance of London.

• As this role requires close collaboration with the Directors, clients, participation outside of regular studio hours may be occasionally required.
